Nigerian president Muhammadu Buhari must think history is
threatening to repeat itself as he watches his main challenger in the
forthcoming February 2019 general election, Atiku Abubakar gain more
followership and endorsement and do what he did three years ago by building a
broad base alliance to win power in the world’s most populous black nation.
It should be noted however that in 2015, Buhari rode atop a
wide coalition to become the first opposition candidate to defeat an incumbent
president in the country but failed to deliver the dividends of democracy to
Nigerians three years on.
In 2018 however, with
his former allies in 2015 throwing their weight behind Atiku Abubakar, among
whom is former president Olusegun Obasanjo, the pendulum has swung the clock in
favour of the Peoples Democratic Party’s Candidate; Atiku Abubakar to win the
2019 general election.
Everyone has opted for the presidency of Atiku Abubakar come february 2019
